Clinical Significance of mTOR and p-mTOR Protein Expression in Human Colorectal Carcinoma

چکیده
Colorectal carcinoma is the third most common type of malignant tumor in the world. Despite great advances in modern therapeutic strategies, overall survival of patients undergoing complete resection of carcinomas is short (Otake et al., 2010). Knowledge of molecular biomarkers associated with the prognosis of colorectal carcinomas may help to devise new treatment strategies and improve clinical outcome. A potential candidate of biomarkers for colorectal carcinomas is the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), a Ser/Thr protein kinase which plays a key role in regulating important cellular functions, including proliferation (Buck et al., 2006), growth (Shaw and Cantley, 2006), survival (Foster, 2009), mobility and angiogenesis (Jiang and Liu, 2008). In several noncolorectal tumors, activation of the mTOR pathway and overexpression correlate with more aggressive clinical courses, and has been reported to be useful target therapy (Raymond et al., 2004; O’Donnell et al., 2008; Rizell et al., 2008). The aim of the present study was to examine the expression of mTOR and p-mTOR in colon carcinomas and its correlation to clinicopathological characteristics.

Mechanism underlying the effects of doxepin on β-amyloid -induced memory impairment in rats
Objective(s): In previous studies, researchers observed that doxepin could improve cognitive processes and has protective effectson the central nervous system. Thus, this study was designed to analyze the effects of doxepin on β-amyloid (Aβ)-induced memory impairment and neuronal toxicity in ratand to explore the underlying mechanism. Materials and Methods: Rats were treated with Aβ1-42 and dox...
متن کاملExpression of Notch-signaling pathway in familial adenomatous polyposis and its clinical significance.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between Notch-signaling pathway and familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) through the expressions of Notch-1, DLL-1, and p-mTOR, and to explore its correlation with tumorigenesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The expressions of Notch1, DLL-1, and p-mTOR were detected in 21 cases of FAP polyps, 20 cases of colorectal inflammatory polyp, and 20 cases of poorly ...
متن کاملEupafolin ameliorates lipopolysaccharide-induced cardiomyocyte autophagy via PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway
Objective(s): Eupafolin, a major active component of Eupatorium perfoliatum L., has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is responsible for myocardial depression. A line of evidences revealed that LPS induces autophagy in cardiomyocytes injury. This study aims to evaluate the effects of eupafolin on LPS-induced cardiomyocyte autophagy...
متن کاملTHE EFFECTS OF 4 WEEKS HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING ON MAMMALIAN RAPAMYCIN TARGET PROTEIN (MTOR) AND STEROL TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR REGULATORY PROTEIN-1 (SREBP1) PROTEINS CONTENT IN DIABETICS OBESE RATS ADIPOSE TISSUE
Background: Obesity and type 2 diabetes can impair the function of important cellular pathways. Activation of the mTOR pathway results in regulation of the SREBP1 protein for metabolism and regulation of adipose tissue. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 4 weeks of high intensity interval training on the content of mTOR and SREBP1 in adipose tissue of type 2 diabetic rats. ...
متن کاملExpression of phosphorylated Akt/mTOR and clinical significance in human ameloblastoma.
This study aimed to evaluate the expression of AKT and phosphorylated AKT (p-Akt) in human ameloblastoma (AB). Immunohistochemistry showed human AB was positive for Akt and Akt expression was mainly found in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells. The Akt expression in AB was significantly higher than that in normal oral mucosa (NOM), but still lower than that in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC)....
